NEW DELHI: The Indian Army on Tuesday held a Pakistani national near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, officials confirmed.
“A Pakistani national has been apprehended from the LoC in the Poonch sector,” an Army official said.
The incident has triggered heightened alertness among security forces, especially in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 28 people and has led to renewed tension between the two neighbouring nations.
The Pahalgam terror attack was one of the most brutal strikes in recent memory, with terrorists targeting and gunning down tourists in Jammu and Kashmir.
The attack, carried out at one of south Kashmir’s most visited locations, comes just months after the deadly June 2024 attack in Reasi, where pilgrims en route to Vaishno Devi were targeted.
In response to the latest developments, security forces have intensified surveillance and patrolling in the region to prevent any further attempts at infiltration or unrest.
